Finch - What It Is To Burn
Ok, so Finch is your high school football team's new favorite band, they use cheesy vocal effects live, the big-time local radio station is hyping them as 'the next Papa Roach,' and they'll probably be on the next WWF soundtrack. Despite all that, can you say guilty pleasure?
"What It Is To Burn" may have its strikes against it, but there's no denying that this album kicks ass. From the opening track, "New Beginnings" to the closing bonus track, "What It Is To Burn," Finch pummel your ears with heavy, aggressive rock. "Project Mayhem" is the only track on here that just doesn't seem to fit in, and consequently is the only track that I don't really like. Finch doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. They wear their influences on their sleeve, and sound like a mix between Deftones and The Starting Line. Finch also has what seems to be a 'non-sexual crush' on Glassjaw. The cover art is noticeably similar to Glassjaw's "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence," and Daryl Palumbo, the singer for Glassjaw, even appears on the song "Grey Matter."
In conclusion, this album rocks hard. Don't pass it up because you're 'too cool' for Drive Thru Records or your local alternative rock radio station. With the help of Mark Trombino, this album is beautifully produced, and is a pleasure to listen to over and over again.
