The Curse

If you haven't heard The Curse yet, do yourself a favor and check them out! To me they sound like a slightly harder version of Dillinger Four, and they fuckin' rock. Unfortunately I was out of town when they came through on tour with Avail, therefore this interview was conducted via e-mail.

First off, who is in the band and where are you from?
Beau plays bass, Brendan plays drums, Ben sings, and Dave plays guitar. We are from Philly and the surrounding area and we started playing shows in February 2002.

How did you hook up with Chunksaah Records for The Philidelphia Sound split, and with Hellbent Records for your upcoming EP?
Dave roadies for The Bouncing Souls, so knows those guys, and they liked the demo a lot and wanted to do the split release. Joe Oz and Cutlets who do Hellbent are friends of Dave's as well and liked the demo and wanted to do a Curse release.

When will your new EP be out, what is it called, and what can everyone expect?
It will be out January 14th, it is self titled and you can expect the six best songs you've ever heard in your stinkin' life.

How is the Avail tour going so far? What is the craziest or funniest thing that has happened (on this tour, or on any previous tours)?
The tour is going great. It is our first tour, so i guess the craziest thing that has happened was our drummer, Brendan, woke up in the middle of the night screaming about being attacked by a badger...we just were like "What the hell....?" Beau had a run in with a Gomorrean guard...nothing too crazy because all we do is drive and play; but California is coming up...

What is the best part about touring, and what is the worst part?
The best part is not working 9 to 5. The worst is the van's toilet smell (Beau's ass) and the long ass drives!

Where are your favorite places to play, outside of Philly?
Rochester, DC, and NYC.

What is the worst injury a member of The Curse has obtained onstage?
So far we haven't sustained any injuries (fingers crossed).

What do you guys do besides play music? Do you have other jobs? What are your hobbies?
Beau drinks beer, Ben fights with his dog, Brendan works, Dave roadies, and we all have other jobs.

What are you guys listening to in the van these days, and what else do you do to pass the time between cities?
We listen to goddamned Jawbreaker whenever the van is under 40 mph. Otherwise we listen to all kinds of shit, it depends on who is driving. We pass time farting and eating shitty food, and by having ridiculous conversations about John Madden's role in society.

If you could get rid of one band, who would you get rid of?
Beau-Creed Brendan-Bad Brains Ben-Proceed Dave-Good Charlotte

If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be, and what would you do?
Beau-Ron Jeremy / find a Gomorrean guard Brendan-Batman Ben-Harry Potter / play Quidditch Dave-myself / do computer interviews

If your house was burning down, and you could only grab 3 CDs, and 3 other things, what would you grab?
No CDs...the house is on fire for God's sake!
Brendan- My lady& 2 dogs. Ben- My wife and both of her ass cheeks...no CDs 'cause I've got a handful. Beau- Nothing...burn! Dave- My lady, Maura & Lamotta

What would you do if you won the lottery, and had $1 million?
Brendan- Move out of fishtown. Beau- Go to school. Ben- Buy a house. Dave- Buy a new band.

If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
Brendan- A slice of Lorenzo's Pizza. Beau- Chicken wings. Ben- Chicken in a biscuit. Dave- Ravioli.

What do you think about MP3s, and people sharing your music over the Internet? And as a smaller band, do you think it has hurt or helped you more?
I don't know what to think. Kids have definitely got into our band through it, but there should be a way bands can get payed from the trading of their songs.

Do you have any closing comments? And if you could please list off a few bands that are either from Philly that you think are awesome, or that you have played with on tour that you think are awesome, that would be great.
AVAIL, TRIAL BY FIRE, GO FOR THE THROAT, THE EXPLOSION, ONE MAN ARMY, HOT WATER MUSIC... Thanks, see you on tour... Check out the new site:
